Home > Purpose > Purpose & Relationship in Christ – Which is more important?

Hi there everyone,

It’s been awhile I know. I’ve been busy just getting in the face of God making sure that my feet are focused in the direction that HE needs them to be. You know sometimes when things get going for you (in my case: successful book, ministry, etc.) your focus becomes that “Thing” that is working well. I don’t believe its any of our intentions but if we’re not careful it happens that way. We focus on the gift not the giver of the gift and it shouldn’t be that way.

Wow this was sooo not what I was planning to blog about but I guess someone needs to hear this.

No matter what blessing comes our way we have to make sure we don’t get side tracked. I was encouraging someone over this weekend that purpose is GREAT but relationship in Christ is so much more important because if you pursue purpose without a firm foundation in Christ then the pleasures of purpose can lead you a high place and a hard fall. You may be saying, well if my purpose is in Christ then how will I fall? Good Question, Easy Answer! It’s all about focus and your heart’s devotion. I’ll use my own experience as an example. I recently released a book A Princess Whispers To My Father, I know God gave me that book to share with the world, YET the pleasures of fulfilling that purpose were starting to overtake me. I found so much pleasure in tweeting, blogging, promoting the book (which was promoting Christ) BUT my focus was the book, my time was devoted to getting the word about the book out. I found pleasure in all the people who were excited about the book, happy for me, inspired by me and then it all came to light…. its NOT about ME or this book. Even though the book is leading people to Christ, me – the author- the visionary- there was too much of me. I was actually trading my personal time with Christ to promote my book – that may have been healthy for the readers MAYBE but it wasn’t for my own relationship with Christ.

So there’s a prime example of how a tool that is meant to be used for Christ can be the very thing that causes you to lose focus on the Gift Giver. Today’s society, especially in our generation, we’re all moved by this Purpose thing. I by no means am against finding purpose, I Am Handpicked exists to help you find your handpicked purpose in Christ. Yet I want to encourage you to above any personal purpose, you are purposed for Christ – just to be a vessel for Him. Get to know the Savior more and more and more. Don’t start running with Him, then think you can “take it from here.”

Love you all,

Be Blessed! And know if you need me I’m here, but if I don’t respond fast enough the maker of the universe is just waiting for you to talk with Him 🙂

Galatians 3:2-4

The Message (MSG)

2-4 Let me put this question to you: How did your new life begin? Was it by working your heads off to please God? Or was it by responding to God’s Message to you? Are you going to continue this craziness? For only crazy people would think they could complete by their own efforts what was begun by God. If you weren’t smart enough or strong enough to begin it, how do you suppose you could perfect it? Did you go through this whole painful learning process for nothing? It is not yet a total loss, but it certainly will be if you keep this up!
