Suicide is the tenth most common cause of death in the United States. People may consider suicide when they are hopeless and can’t see any other solution to their problems. Often it’s related to serious depression, alcohol or substance abuse, or a major stressful event

In 2010 (the most recent year for which data are available), 38,364 suicides were reported, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death for Americans .In that year, someone in the country died by suicide every 13.7 minutes.(CDC 2010)

The number of lives lost each year through suicide exceeds the number of deaths due to homicide and war combined.
